Early Childhood Intervention Initiative
Background
Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) is a Texas state-run program providing therapies to children under the age of three with autism, Down syndrome, and other disabilities and developmental delays. This multi-year initiative aimed to prevent the Texas legislature from cutting ECI funding, identify the challenges related to the state’s under-enrolling of infants into ECI, and ensure that ECI providers are available statewide for every eligible child. The audiences for these materials were the Texas Legislature, state agencies, ECI providers, and the public at large.
Media
I was the primary visual collateral producer, developing numerous 1-pagers, six reports, two interactive maps, as well as extensive blog and social media posts.
ECI Reports
8.5” x 11”, saddle stitch print
The highlighted report is one of six reports I designed between 2016 and 2020. The culmination of months of collaboration and research, each report served to bring attention to the impacts of the ECI program.
I produced the layouts in Adobe InDesign and made the charts and maps in Adobe Illustrator.
ECI Enrollment Interactive Map
I generated this interactive map using Tableau Public from publicly-available state data, displaying change in enrollment in the ECI program between 2011 and 2015 on a diverging scale with an overlay of ECI provider offices.
This type of visualization is helpful in understanding where potentially underserved children are located, finding enrollment trends, and illustrating to state leaders that affected children live statewide.
Developmental Screenings Interactive Map
I generated this interactive map using Tableau Public from publicly-available state data, displaying regional data on the percentages of young children under the age of six who received a developmental screening.
ECI Social Media Images
I produced various-sized images for Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram to generate public interest in ECI, promote the reports, and create awareness with state leaders.
